Artemis was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to 9 beautiful grandchildren. While she spent the last two years of her life battling pancreatic cancer, she certainly didn’t let it define her.
Artemis loved to be involved and be active. She never sat still unless it was to be behind her computer organizing ringette, hockey or her work. She worked out regularly. Even after she was diagnosed she would wake up and exercise, right after putting on her eyelashes. She even exercised from her hospital room. She would crank the oxygen up on her tank, turn the music on her phone, and lift weights.
Artemis had many hobbies. She played hockey, ringette, and golf. She ran long distance and participated in many half marathons. She sang in choir, took ukelele lessons and so much more. In the last two years she even participated in dragon boating with her friends.
She loved to be surrounded by people. Whether it was with friends or family, Artemis loved to be in the company of fun loving people. She loved to dance, including on top of bars at the many parties she and Rudy threw at Madison’s restaurant.
More than anything, Artemis loved to be Grandma. She often expressed how this was her opportunity to get on the floor and play with the kids, something she was often too busy to do when her own children were young. So this was the moment, when she had young grandchildren, to play and be silly and dance some more. Evenings at Grandma and Opa’s house were always loud, crazy and so much fun.
To say she will be missed is a huge understatement. Even considering what life will be like without her is so difficult. But we also know that she has set us up for success. By being involved and connected so heavily in the community Artemis has given us the gift of connection. She has brought us all together and left us one another – and now it’s up to us to come together and keep her spirit alive through hockey, ringette, stories, songs and everything in between.
We love you Artemis.
